How to Preserve Coriander Leaves for One Year

Coriander leaves are a popular ingredient in many dishes, but they have a relatively short shelf life. However, with proper preservation techniques, you can enjoy their fresh flavor for up to a year. Here’s how:

Step 1: Harvest the Coriander

Choose mature coriander leaves that are green and free of yellow spots or wilting. Harvest the leaves just before they flower, as this is when they have the highest oil content and strongest flavor.

Step 2: Blanch the Coriander

Blanch the coriander leaves in boiling water for 1-2 minutes, then immediately plunge them into a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain the leaves and pat them dry with a clean towel.

Step 3: Freeze the Coriander

Place the dried coriander leaves in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Once frozen, transfer the leaves to a freezer-safe container or plastic bag. Label the container with the date and the type of herb.

Step 4: Store the Frozen Coriander

Store the frozen coriander in the freezer, where it will stay fresh for up to one year.

Step 5: Use the Frozen Coriander

When you’re ready to use the coriander, remove the desired amount from the freezer and let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight or at room temperature for about 10 minutes. You can then use the coriander as you would fresh leaves, either chopped or whole.

By following these steps, you can preserve coriander leaves for up to one year, ensuring a steady supply of fresh flavor for all your favorite dishes.
